ALL ABOUT US

We use only premium wood, locally grown in sustainably managed forests. As a family-owned and run business we feel a very personal responsibility for everything we make and do. All the products we fashion from these magic forests are handmade and locally produced, and use only natural finishes, which makes them beautiful, food safe, and fully recyclable.

FORESTS ARE MAGIC

Forests provide the earth with food, shelter, and oxygen; they also serve to absorb carbon – some 7.6 billion metric tonnes of CO2 per year. Which is increasingly important as we continue to produce ever more carbon and CO2, putting a considerable strain on the environment.

Forests also provide building material for our homes and an array of other built structures, together with the objects that makes our houses homes, like furniture, home furnishings and décor, and myriad accessories.

RECYCLABLE & SUSTAINABLE

All Breka products are an integral part of the natural, circular production cycle. All off-cuts and unused scrap wood and sawdust from production and processing is meticulously collected and returned via composting back to the earth.

And as our products contain no toxic substances, they will all eventually find their way back safely into the natural environment from where they came – and serve as a source of nutrition for future generations of rich and robust forest growth.

FOOD SAFE

Breka products are entirely food safe, as they are not treated with any toxic or artificial chemicals. Instead, they are treated exclusively with edible oils, which are full absorbed by the fine woods they are designed to protect. They’re made to be used explicitly with food, to serve you equally well in the kitchen, on the table, and well beyond, safely and healthfully. And we make sure to provide simple instructions on how to best care for your Breka pieces, so you continue to get the best out of them, year after year.

LOCALY PRODUCED

Local production boasts a handful of benefits. Local craftspeople from the area have been trained in trades that enjoy long traditions in the region. They have a respect for the forests around them and the materials that are sourced for production and which they handle with both skill and respect.

Locally produced means there is far less transport and related logistics involved, so less fuel consumed and fewer emissions, together with less wear and tear and congestion on our roadways. Small footprint, big benefits.

Our natural finishes ensure your experience with Breka products is a healthful and wholesome one, with no toxic chemicals coming between you and your naturally beautiful Breka product. So, to that end, we keep things as close to their natural state as possible.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Breka uses only the highest quality wood responsibly harvested from both wild and pristine, sustainably managed forests. That way, we honour the environment that provides us with this very special raw material, and our customers can feel good about bringing these objects into their homes and into their lives. Because Breka takes all things forest-related personally.

Which is why all Breka production is FSC® certified,
as FSC® certifies the sustainable management of the environments from which our wood is sourced.

HANDMADE

All of Breka’s products are handmade. Which touches every phase of production, from the selection of a block or board though sawing, milling, turning, and finishing. That means each piece carries traces of a personal touch, that human hands were an integral part of the object produced. Similarly, our commitment to handmade production means that local specialists continue to ply and pass on their skills, traditions, and traditional craft – which they bring to each and every Breka piece. Because with Breka, it’s personal.

FAMILY OWNED & RUN

A family-owned and run business helps ensure our products and processes remain simple, straightforward, and honest. We know and care about the special people who turn raw materials into beautiful household objects and everyone throughout the chain who helps make this happen.

We’re invested in what we do and what we share out there in the big wide world. Fascinated by forests and the natural beauty of the trees they produce designer and founder Stane Bukovec began working his personal magic on local wood resources back in the late 1970s and has had a strong guiding hand in all things Breka ever since. Decades later, his family continues to run the company alongside Stane, exploring new products, new processes and technologies, and new markets.
